Visa Cash Card

Visa cash card is actually a credit card with a Visa logo on it and it works just as any other Visa card, except for the fact that it is not a credit card per se. Deluxecard visa gift card is a very popular card on the market today.

As with any other gift card, a visa gift card can be purchased from the card company and it can store a particular value, in some cases up to $3000.

You can purchase the card for yourself as well as for anyone else as a gift. If it is a gift for someone else, the card will be delivered directly to the person you have named, and in order to use the card, it should be activated upon receiving.

Make sure you understand the differences between a prepaid visa cash card and a gift card with a Visa logo on it. The first one may allow you to deposit additional amounts of money every time your balance goes low, but the second one is non-reloadable. That simply means if you exhaust the amount you have purchased, your card is canceled.

Like any other financial tools, Visa debit cards are good and bad, depending on how you use them.

The pros of the card are:

  • you can buy a Visa gift card and it will be delivered in a couple of days to you or to the person you are giving a gift to
  • prepaid credit card is a much better looking gift than cash, and it can be personalized
  • you can make a purchase with this card virtually anywhere in the world, online, from any merchant accepting Visa cards
  • you can use your credit card or checking account to deposit an amount to the card
  • there is no credit inquiry or credit report check to get the card
  • wherever debit cards are accepted, the gift card is accepted as well
  • you are protected against any overdraft fees because your account is automatically closed as soon as your funds are exhausted

The cons of the card are:

  • you have to pay a processing fee, up to $8 in the case of a Deluxe Card, a $4 service fee if you are ordering by phone, and a $15 express delivery fee if you want it there fast
  • if the card is lost, there is a $15 reissuing fee
  • the card is valid for 12 months, and if a balance still remains on the card after that, you have to pay a monthly maintenance fee of $2.50 as long as there are funds remaining on the card
  • the cardholder liability for an unauthorized transaction is not clear and should be discussed with the card issuer on a case by case basis
  • the card can not be used to get cash from an ATM

Now it is up to you to make an intelligent decision on whether you should buy a Visa gift card or go with the more traditional debit card, or even with the Visa card tied to your real checking account.
