Discover Gift Cards
Discover gift card is a prepaid store value card that can be used the same as any other credit card, anywhere Discover cards are accepted. The card works just like any other prepaid credit card for purchases from merchants either online, at stores, or by phone.
You can often hear me criticizing card issuers’ products; however, I have to admit that this gift card delivers what is promised with the most affordable price on the market.
Let me tell you that this card is not going to help you build your credit history, or get you rewards, or offer you a competitive interest rate, nope.
However, whether it is a personal or corporate occasion, this card makes a perfect practical gift. The card looks the same as any other Discover credit card, but in addition, you can personalize the card with the recipient’s name or a personal message, as well as send the card with a greeting card in a package.
It is easy to buy the card. You can order it through Discover customer service or browse gift cards and purchase the card online on their website. It is not necessary to open a bank account for this card.
You can load the card with $20 to $500, and the cost is $3.95 for the card; or, if you’d like to use a package that includes a greeting card, it will be $6.95. There is a maintenance fee of $2.50 if there is no activity during a 12 month period, and a $5 replacement fee if the card is lost.
Unlike other preloaded credit cards, the Discover gift card does not expire unless there is no money on the card. The card has an expiration date on it for the security purposes; however, you can replace the card after the expiration date.
Another gift card reincarnation Discover has to offer is eGift Card, which I consider a long-awaited, truly instant credit card. As the name suggests, this card is in electronic form, meaning as soon as you purchase it, you will get all the info over e-mail and you can use it for online and over the phone purchases right away. The cost is only $3.95.
I’d suggest the eGift Card can be a very good replacement for your regular credit card if you would like to avoid exposing it and protect your card information on Internet and over-the-phone purchases. And if you don’t have a credit card, this electronic card can be a door opener for you to start participating in online shopping.
I believe this card can also be used as a replacement for business credit cards when the business owner or a corporate executive wants to restrict their employee’s cardholder spending to the particular amount they load on the card.
In my opinion, this product can easily get to the top 10 among American Express, Citi, and Chase gift card products.
